On May 13, the 2024 Jeffrey Davidow Good Neighbor Award will be presented to Tania Ortíz Mena, a visionary leader with nearly three decades of experience shaping the North American energy landscape. Her unwavering dedication to fostering collaboration between Mexico and the United States has played a pivotal role in positioning North America as a competitive energy region.

Tania Ortiz Mena is a visionary leader with nearly three decades of experience shaping the North American energy landscape. Her unwavering dedication to fostering collaboration between Mexico and the United States has played a pivotal role in positioning North America as a competitive energy region.

 

Currently, Ortiz Mena serves as the president of Sempra Infrastructure, North America’s leading energy infrastructure company, where she leads the company in developing cross-border energy projects that not only address the world’s rising energy demands but also strengthen global energy security. Her work spans a diverse portfolio of assets across LNG, Energy Networks, and Low Carbon solutions in both the U.S. and Mexico.

Prior to this, Ortiz Mena served as CEO and board member of IEnova, Sempra’s subsidiary in Mexico. In this role, she played a critical part in advancing regulatory frameworks and infrastructure in the energy sector. Among her many accomplishments, she led the development of a regasification plant which she then helped convert to a liquefaction terminal, ECA LNG, along Mexico’s west coast. Through her leadership she helped establish Mexico as a key energy partner to the United States.

Beyond her corporate roles, Ortiz Mena is known as a prominent public advocate for the future of energy collaboration and policy. Her influence extends across major global forums, where she frequently speaks on energy transformation and sustainable development.

Ortiz Mena also serves as an independent board member on the Mexican Stock Exchange and has co-chaired the U.S.-Mexico Energy Business Council. She is also a member of the U.S.-Mexico CEO Dialogue, the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations, the American Chamber of Commerce Mexico, and the Inter-American Dialogue, among others.

Ortiz Mena’s leadership and advocacy have garnered numerous prestigious accolades. These include being included in several lists of leaders, such as Bloomberg Línea’s “500 Most Influential People in Latin America 2024” and Expansión magazine’s list of “The 100 Most Powerful Women in Business”, named one of the “Best CEOs in Mexico 2024” by Great Place to Work, earn a spot on Merco’s list of “Top 100 Most Reputable Mexican Leaders.” Her contributions have also earned her an honorary degree from Escuela Bancaria Comercial.

A staunch advocate for sustainability and diversity, Ortiz Mena is also a founding member of Voz Experta, a network of over 130 women experts in the energy sector dedicated to making women leadership visible in energy conferences.

With a master’s degree in international relations from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, her expertise continues to strengthen the strategic energy partnership between Mexico and the U.S., positioning North America as a global energy leader.
